It's easy to work out the width of a shelf or space if you allow 10'' (25cm) for a pair of shoes. In fact 10'' is a fairly generous width. You may find that 9 1/2'' (24cm) to be adequate. Another point you may want to consider is whether you want to accommodate boots and wellies. If yes, then the height of a shelf space will need to be considered. And finally, will you want to sit while you change?
